Cooking Up a Kitchen Remodeling Project? Make OC Junk Hauling Part of the Recipe

Facebookgoogle_plus

Value is why you take on a home remodeling project. Sure, you want to update styles, colors, and patterns. But you need to always keep in mind how these additions and alterations affect the value of your home. For example: your kitchen.

According to a 2015 report from the National Association of Realtors, a top-to-bottom renovation of a 210-square-foot kitchen has a national median cost of $60,000. But don’t worry, as we said, you need to look at the value to your home. That same National Association of Realtors survey reveals that you’ll recover 67% of that cost come selling time.

So how do you go about doing this kitchen remodel project?

37% of home owners did the project themselves

28% hired a professional for the entire job

20% hired the labor but purchased the materials.

13% contributed some DIY labor.

In all four of those categories, no matter where you fit in, you’re going to have a lot of used materials to be hauled away. And that’s where OC Junk Hauling enters the picture.

When possible our appliance removal results in donating all usable items to local charities.  Recycling for us not only makes good business sense but the greater benefit is we reduce the amount that goes into landfills on behalf of all our customers.

Here’s a list of kitchen-related appliances recycled directly by us or by our recycling partners:

  • Refrigerators
  • Freezers
  • Air Conditioners
  • Stoves
  • Microwaves

Call us before you start the project for a free consultation and we will map out with you or your contractor a pickup schedule so there will be as little debris as possible to interfere with your daily life.

And there will be interferences…

For one thing, prepare to undertake this project now, not in the winter. Kitchen remodel work may involve redoing windows over the sink, moving the sink area, even moving a wall that will leave exposed areas!

Consider these comments from a homeowner on the GardenWeb.com site:

“Our GC said it would take 7 weeks and it took 8 (except for refinishing the floors, which was done about a month later and had us out of the kitchen for another week). Our project was a down-to-the-studs renovation, including replacing an exterior door with a window, replacing a second window, and taking one wall down to half height. Oh and removing a water heater and replacing it with an on-demand unit outside the kitchen.”

Add to that this tip from Angie’s List website: If you’re left without a working kitchen, be prepared to set up shop elsewhere — preferably near a sink (utility room, downstairs bath). Know what types of food you’ll be able to keep in the house (and if you’ll have access to a fridge or stove) and budget for eating out more than normal.”

Remodeling kitchens obviously involve a lot of work. But oh, so worth it to enjoy your home while you live in it, and to add value to resale when you will no longer live there.

As a locally owned, Orange County family business, we’ve been there, done that. At OC Junk Hauling we will make the daily or weekly clean up experience as minimally intrusive to your home life as possible.

Making a Clean Sweep When the Kids Move Out

Full Service Junk Hauling Services in Orange County

June has come and gone. As have the college graduations and weddings. Kids are moving on. Time to get motivated to downsize or at least do an over-due house cleanout and clear some clutter. Easier said than done? Not really, when you have the moving professionals at OC Junk Hauling to pitch in when your work is done.

So where do YOU start? Start in one spot. Give yourself an hour. It is summertime, you won’t want to spend more than an hour inside with boxes and papers and memories.

Three piles people!

1-Most definite keep.

2-Yeah, throw away

3-Uhm, I don’t know

And then try to keep box #3 from overflowing too fast. If it was really, really, important, your kids would have taken it, or at least told you not to touch.

After you have completed that one spot, you are going to feel successful. You are going to feel good about yourself. Hey this is not so bad. I can do this.

Doesn’t matter if it was a countertop or a cabinet drawer or shelf. Start small, work your way up to the closets and bedrooms.

If you don’t know where to put something, perhaps you don’t need it.

Exercise equipment you bought for your daughter when she ran track? Set it aside and OC Junk Hauling will recycle it to a community organization that can put it to better use than you using it as a clothes horse.

Filing cabinets your son used to keep filled with all kinds of news clippings from grade school about everything in case he needed it for stories when he thought he wanted to be a reporter? OC Junk Hauling will take it all away.

Beds that were getting old and too small at the same time, creaky desks that have had way too many heavy backpacks thrown on them, definitely not in the maybe pile.

And one of the keys to clear clutter is to not make any new clutter. There is a saying “A place for everything and everything in its place” Learn it, live it.

In fact, dealing with mail, bills, paperwork, documents, notes, etc. advice from Zenhabits  is:

“Make quick decisions: trash them, file them immediately, or make a note of the action required and put them in an ‘action’ file. Don’t put anything back on the pile, and don’t put them anywhere but in a folder (and no cheating ‘to be filed’ folders!) or in the trash/recycling bin.”

Speaking of recycling bin, once you’ve decided what needs to go and stay in your house clean out— and you’re happy with our free no-obligation estimate — just sit back while our professional crew gets the clutter out and the job done! We do ALL the labor and loading, no matter where your items are located and we clean up afterward, too!

Upcycling Is Uplifting for Orange County

Facebookgoogle_plus

One man’s junk is another man’s treasure. You have heard that saying. At OC Junk Hauling we live it every day. Picking up unwanted, no longer needed items, we do our best to recycle or upcycle as much as possible to organizations that can reuse or repurpose the materials.

You know about recycling but not upcycling?

Upcycling makes a positive impact on our environment by removing and thus interrupting a stream of global garbage.

Whereas recycling requires energy or water to break down materials, upcycling focuses on the creativity and craftsmanship of individuals to see another purpose for the objects at hand.

Why recycle/upcycle

According to the Trash Talkin’ blog:

  • Each day, people in the U.S. throw enough trash away to fill 63,000 garbage trucks.
  • Each year, Americans generate between 250 and 400 million tons of garbage — all of which requires landfill space.
  • The United States has over 3,000 active landfills and over 10,000 “old” landfills. All create hazardous gas and could be a danger to groundwater.

What can be recycled?

  • Aluminum can be recycled plenty of times with no loss of quality.
  • Cardboard boxes, such as cereal boxes, pizza boxes, cracker boxes, and any other type of paper packaging.
  • Milk jugs, laundry detergent bottles, plastic bags, water pipes, refillable bottles, bottle caps.

What can be upcycled?

  • Old or damaged furniture. For example, a dresser could be repurposed into antique bathroom vanity.
  • Shutters can be turned into sofa table tops or headboards.
  • Galvanized metal trash cans, being replaced by rubber ones, can be upcycled into planters for flowers.

Your trash-destined items can become treasured items for other people, once we at OC Junk Hauling evaluate them for repurposing. Then we will take them where they will still provide use and value to someone else in the community. It is good for you, it is good for them, it is good for the community. And it lessens dependence on landfills.

Give us a call at (949)424-9265 and one of our friendly staff will book your appointment for a free visit. At your home, we will evaluate items to be removed and provide a no obligation estimate. Then you sit back and relax as we do all the work. It really is that easy.

OC Junk Hauling is a family owned business serving Orange County, CA. Our family is very conscious of supporting our community and so it is with our business as well.

We donate/recycle/reuse approximately 85% of the materials we remove. We are enthusiastic about recycling because it helps us provide our clients with the best prices and at the same time we can keep Orange County clean & beautiful.
